Roxmouth shines on stage for charity

Jonathan Roxmouth, best-known for his award-winning performance in The Phantom of the Opera as the Phantom, performed in a two-night extravaganza of his hit show, Stage by Stage.

This fun-filled evening was held on February 8 and 9, at the Boksburg Barnyard Theatre, in collaboration with the Boksburg SPCA, to raise funds for the NGO after a busy festive season.

An amount of R81 110 was raised for the SPCA.

The show consisted of sociable fans, but even better entertainment.

Roxmouth entertained the audience with his voice, infectious stage personality and even played a piano piece from his upcoming show, Call me Lee.

Singing songs from theatre shows he did in the past, as well as songs from current theatre shows, Roxmouth had the audience on their feet.

In 2006, he started his love for the arts in a Barnyard Theatre, so he enjoyed returning to his performing roots.

According to Roxmouth, there is a misconception that there is no money in the arts.

“It is a very giving profession. Nowadays, other jobs are being replaced by machines, but the arts will never be replaced by it,” says Roxmouth.

Roxmouth’s parents also used to be against him wanting to pursue a career in the arts, arguing that he will not make a living out of it.

This inspired him to work harder to achieve great opportunities.

He is currently giving class at a college in Cape Town, encouraging those who have a love for the arts to follow their dream.

Call me Lee is Roxmouth’s upcoming piano show about how Liberace actually became Liberace.

“It will be a fun evening with laughter, songs and entertainment,” says Roxmouth.

Call me Lee will be starred in April at Monte Casino.
