Swimmers with soul
Soul Swimming Club, based at Clearwater Estate, won the Eastern Gauteng Aquatic (EGA) Championship, which took place in Germiston, for the first time recently.
Vanessa Bartie, chairwoman of the club, said: “This is our fifth season as Soul Swimming, and to win the champs for the first time is a great achievement.
“A big thanks must go out to our two wonderful coaches, Merril Stainton Prinsloo and Donnie Semple, and all our dedicated swimmers who participated.
The club had 51 swimmers competing at the championship, where they won 62 individual medals (27 gold, 20 silver and 15 bronze medals), while 14 relay teams also brought back medals.
“Our swimmers broke a few records and all achieved some really great times, with 10 swimmers being selected to the EGA Strategic Development Squad,” said Bartie.
“We do still consider ourselves a young club, but look forward to growing and achieving more goals.”
