United complete double over Boksburg
United’s Dian Moore took 4/ 36 before belting a half century to help his side to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Boksburg at Hosking Park on Sunday, February 2.
United deprived the visitors of generating any momentum behind the bat, with JP van Staden the sole batter in the Boksburg order to manage to reach the 30-run mark.
The home team then proceeded to overhaul the 116 target in just 26 overs.
Boksburg were bowled out in 28.2 overs.
The result meant United completed the double over their cross-town rivals whom they beat at PG Park in the reverse fixture last October.
Boksburg could not have gotten off to a worse start, as opener Herman Meyer Senior received his marching orders without registering a single run.
Meyer’s dismissal was followed-up by opening partner Michael Holtzhausen’s score of four, which put the visitors on the backfoot early on in the match.
The early wickets took their toll on the rest of the visiting side’s batting order and showed when captain, Len Meyer, and Ruan du Plessis were removed for 16 and zero, respectively, to seal a catastrophic showing from the Boksburg top order.
Following van Staden’s fall, Boksburg’s hopes were pinned on Herman Meyer Junior and Morne Badenhorst, but the duo’s combined 39 (13; 26) proved insufficient to make United’s task an ascending one.
Moore’s 54 was aided by Ryan Bond’s 23 and Quinton van der Schyff’s 17 to steer the home team to victory.
Aidan Justus’ unbeaten one, and JP Meade’s unsurpassed 12 ensured victory for United with seven wickets to spare.
