Dakar: Boksburg prevalent behind the scenes

Following the privatisation of Hall Speed Toyota Motorsport, in Midrand, a couple of years back, the company has seen a widespread of Boksburg residents working behind the scenes to help produce the best Toyota Dakar Rally vehicles today.

Werner van Niewenhuizen (Boksburg West), Rocco Hendriks (Van Dyk Park), Danie Terblanche (Witfield) and Wicus Ceronio (Van Dyk Park) ply their trades at the company, and form part of the service crew that built the vehicles that are driven by South African Dakar drivers, Giniel de Villiers, and Leeroy Poulter, in this year’s Dakar.

Van Niewenhuizen is responsible for logistics, which includes the packing of vehicle spares and assisting on servicing of vehicles.

Hendriks is a sub-assembly manager, his duties include the building of gearboxes and shocks; with Terblanche forming part of the team which manufactures spares and services the vehicles. Ceronio is the head technician.

The four were also part of the team that went to the Dakar in 2012 and 2013.
