Pig sty in Farrar Street
The municipality’s lack of maintenance and upgrade has left the pavement across Ekurhuleni Community Centre a destination for rubbish.
A Boksburg resident has raised a complaint regarding the unattractive sight in Farrar Street, Comet. According to the resident, this road is a “pig sty” right through the year, in particular this very same spot.
At any given time, there are huge dumps of rubbish and rubbish bags.
The rubbish that has been dumped causes stench, specifically something that looks like some kind of corpse wrapped in black bags. Signs of decomposition show that it must have been there for some time.
Another worry is the fallen tree, which lies halfway into the road for the past two to three months, since the last major storm. Not only does this sour the environment, but it possesses a danger for motorists.
The resident raises questions and asks why taxes should be paid if the municipality doesn’t do its job.
The Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson Agnes Masilo says: The tree mentioned in the complaint is a private tree that has fallen, and the parks department has made it safe. The grass on the pavement is in a residential areaand we do not service pavement in a residential area, however, we have noticed that the pavement is a constant problem. We do assist in cutting it whenever we are in the Comet area and describe it in our maintenance programmes as hotspot areas.
“No other heaps of rubbish could be found but the bag with the dead dog in. Waste management is removing itand the area disinfected.”
