Tennis club honours Pearson
The Witfield Seniors Tennis Club held its year-end function on Wednesday, November 13, where an honorary membership certificate was granted to club veteran Makkie Pearson.
The 85-year-old Pearson has been playing the game for over 70 years and is a member of the senior division.
According to club treasurer JC van der Merwe, Pearson boasts a 99 per cent attendance record for the senior division games, which take place every Wednesday from 8.30am.
“She is always there on time for the games,” explained van der Merwe.
“If you’re still playing tennis at 80, you’re a star, but if you’re playing at 85, you’re a superstar.”
