Court news in brief

The following cases were tried in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Khaya Mbonyane (19), from Dawn Park, appeared in court on a charge of assault.

He pleaded guilty on October 30, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 13, to R5 000 or 15 months imprisonment.

On September 20, the accused assaulted Nhlanhla Mngomezulu by stabbing her with a bottle.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Christopher Xulu appeared in court on a charge of house break-in and theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty, on October 28, and sentenced on November 11 to 18 months imprisonment.

On October 5, the accused broke into the premises of Mduduzi Mazibane and stole a laptop, sports bag, clothing and an electric razor.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Gardoso Chunguana (40), from the Zama Zama informal settlement, appeared in court on a charge of dealing in liquor.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 12, to R12 000 or 36 months imprisonment, suspended for five years.

On August 31, the accused was found dealing in liquor without a licence.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Albert Nkadineng (41), from Delmas, appeared in court on a charge of assault.

He pleaded not-guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 8, to 18 months imprisonment of which 12 months were suspended for five years.

On June 7, the accused assaulted Lilian Bafetile by hitting her by a stone and clenched fist.

He was also found unfit to possess a firearm.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter and Busi Mafokeng appeared on behalf of the State.

*Francois Reiners (31) and Shane Flagg (31), from Reiger Park, appeared in court on a charge of assault and malicious injury to property, respectively.

They pleaded guilty, were found guilty, and sentenced on November 6, to eight months imprisonment and 12 months imprisonment, respectively, suspended for five years.

On August 4, Reiners assaulted Ilana Mahappy by hitting her with a bottle and Flagg damaged a vehicle, belonging to Natalie Jooste, to the value of R4 500.

Magistrate Emmanuelle Magampa presided over the matter and Angeline Moolman appeared on behalf of the State.
