EG Jansen pupils win at Sun City
EG Jansen tennis boys first team won the Sun City Schools Tournament held during September.
The team of five competeted against various schools from all corners of the country before defeating Grey College (East London) in the semi-finals and HTS Middelburg in the finals to be crowned champions.
Tiaan Steenkamp, Henko Doman, Brandon Pretorius, Shane Viviers and Reynard Steenkamp also recently won the Gauteng Super League in dominant fashion after winning all of their matches.
The Super League was contested by six teams.
Apart from the Super League, the school also competes in the annual Super 16 Schools Tournament which runs from March to April.
Coach Helen Barrett was in good spirits after her team’s great showing at Sun City.
“I am really proud of these boys,” she said.
“They have worked very hard to achieve this.”
The South African Confederation and Olympic Commitee (SASCOC) National Coaches Commission member has been the tennis coach at school for the past two years, and will travel to Pretoria with her team next year after their invitation to take part in the Pretoria League.
