Zingange, Gxabuza win at SA Boxing Championships
Bongani Zingange, from the Boksburg Amateur Boxing Club, did his club and Boksburg proud by winning a gold medal at this year’s South African National Amateur Boxing Organisation (Sanbo) Junior Youth Championships, in Bethlehem.
The young boxer won his bout after the third round via a points decision, 42-41, at the championships, which ran from Tuesday, September 24 until Saturday, September 28.
Zingange was not the only participant from Boksburg. He was joined by club mate Lifa Gxabuza who received bronze after failing to get up from a powerful punch to the gut in the opening round of the fight.
Gxabuza and Zingange now qualified for the championships after winning gold at the Gauteng Youth Championships, which were held in Randfontein on August 24, earlier this year.
The boxing club also held a tournament of its own on Saturday, September 28, and saw five boxers make winning debuts.
The local boxers Nkulwelo Sompempe, Shaun Geral, twins Riaal and Jameel Marks and Lawrence Maluleke had something to smile about on the day.
