Ekurhuleni has thrown its full support behind the country’s flagship event for a third year running with the esteemed Glendower Golf Club.

Dowerglen providing the battleground for the 103rd edition from November 21 and 24.

Kazi Ngqula from Africa Sports Holdings, promoters of the event, explains that the aim for this year’s event is to draw the greater public to expose them to the world of golf and to encourage them to share in the proud heritage of the SA Open Championship.

“The South African Open Championship is the second oldest Open Championship in the world and as such, holds a very prestigious place in the local golfing calendar,” Ngqula says.

“The Championship has served as a springboard for many of the world’s top golfers over the last 102 years, and it is a truly international championship, co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and European Tour.

“Globally, golf has become a sport of the masses and we would like to see that happen here at home.

“While we know that there are many people out there that support amateur and professional golf in South Africa, we hope to attract the younger generations through the social media platforms.

“We want them to come and watch, and to be inspired by international champions and rising stars competing in this year’s 103rd edition.”

In addition to the golf, the organisers will also be offering a series of other attractions that includes a music festival following the final round prizegiving on Sunday.
