Traffic violators fined

During the past week, members of the EMPD issued many fines to traffic violators.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD, 29 fines were given to motorists for driving without their valid card driver’s licence.

“Six vehicles were impounded for not being roadworthy, and six fines were issued for registration and licensing violations.”

He adds that 32 fines were issued for moving violations, and a further 32 fines for parking and stopping offences.

“Eight motorists were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol,” says Mokheseng.

Some 303 pedestrians and motorists were stopped and searched in the CBD, industrial sites, suburbs and at informal settlements.

“We issued six fines to certain motor vehicle that falls under public transport, for failing to display/carry a certificate of fitness.

“A special motorist received a fine for driving without his Professional Drivers Permit (PRDP),” adds Mokheseng.

He says there were 25 accidents during the past week, of which one where serious injuries emerged, and a case of reckless and negligent driving was registered, six where slight injuries occurred, the remainder resulted in damages only, and one where a municipal vehicle was involved.
