Support an abused child by donating a teddy
Ekurhuleni residents are urged to participate in the Gauteng leg of the sixth annual Teddy Run, which will take place at Carnival City Casino, on September 7.
The Teddy Run initiative is a family event aimed at supporting children who are abused.
Teddy bears are collected on the day, and are distributed later to facilities that care for abused children – medically and psychologically, and rehab centres.
According to the organiser of the Teddy Run, Andries Ferreira, some of the teddy bears are also given to specialised units of the SAPD that pick up children for questioning.
“It has been found in studies that a Teddy Bear has a calming effect on a child; it is like a band-aid, it doesn’t cure it just softens the blow.
“Statistics of abused children in South Africa revealed that there are more than 500 new cases of child abuse per day,” says Ferreira.
He asks that people stand up and say no to child abuse by supporting the Teddy Run initive.
“Join us by visiting the event with your family and a Teddy Bear,” he says.
