Child rapist gets life imprisonment

The girl was visiting the accused, to whom she had no relations, when he raped her.

The following cases were tried in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Edwin Marokane (42) appeared in court on charges of rape.

He pleaded not guilty on June 21, and was found guilty and sentenced on July 24, to life imprisonment.

On August 4, 2012, the accused raped a six-year-old girl.

The girl was visiting the accused, to whom she had no relations, when he raped her.

Her brother walked in while the accused was raping her, and ran to get an adult.

The accused allegedly apologised immediately.

According to the victim impact report, the girl, who started Grade one this year, is outspoken, excited to be going to “big school”, and has a bubbly personality.

Magistrate Phahla Mohlaka presided over the matter, and Leon Naudé appeared on behalf of the State.

The case was tried in the officially declared, newly established, sexual offences court in Vosloorus.

n Njubulo Tshabalala (18), from Soweto, appeared in court on charges of possession of stolen property.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on May 13, and sentenced on July 19, to two year correctional supervision.

On April 19, 2012, the accused was found in possession of items for which he could not supply an adequate explanation for.

He was found in possession of two laptops, a playstation, video camera, several perfumes, hairdryer, a cellphone charger and a computer mouse.

Magistrate Shlubana presided over the matter, and Maria Olivier appeared on behalf of the State.

n Sabelo Siyabonga (20), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on charges of robbery.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 15, and sentenced on July 24, to three years imprisonment.

On July 1, the accused assaulted and forcefully took R4 from Nongogo Lonwabo.

He had a previous conviction of robbery from September, 2012.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Zuko Mzikinya (20), from Soweto, appeared in court on charges of house break-in.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilt on April 29, and was sentenced on July 17, to two years correctional supervision.

On May 19, 2009, the accused broke into the premises of Bernard Beyers, and stole jewellery.

He was linked to the crime via fingerprints.

The accused has two other convictions of house break-in one in August 2010, and the second in October 2010.

Magistrate Shlubana presided over the matter, and Maria Olivier appeared on behalf of the State.
