Bakkie searched in Rondebult Road uncovers stash of suspected stolen cables

Both men were charged with possession of suspected stolen property and failing to adhere to the national lockdown regulations

Members of the EMPD SWAT and Specialised Task Team arrested two men who were found in possession of a cable that was allegedly stolen, on May 7.

The police officers who were on their way to enforce Covid-19 regulations spotted a suspicious Nissan NP300 Hardbody Double Cab with two occupants along Rondebult Road.

They pulled it over and found 600kg copper cable valued at R27 000 inside it.

The pair, aged 40 and 44, was arrested and detained at the Dawn Park police station.

The copper cable was confiscated. Police are investigating its origin and destination.

Both men were charged with possession of suspected stolen property and failing to adhere to the national lockdown regulations.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court soon.
