Boksburg beat Tembisa despite early scare
Boksburg middle order strikers Jayden Snyman and David Zweni added some important runs with their respective contributions of 22 and 21.
The Boksburg Cricket Club overcame a sluggish start to their batting innings to eventually secure a comfortable three-wicket victory against visiting Tembisa in the first game of the season’s second round of matches on January 12.
The home side, who were sent to bat first, took a while to get going as they lost crucial wickets early on at Prince George Park before the middle order steadied the innings en route to their 181 total after 43.2 overs.
Opening strikers Akhter Rasul and his captain Adam Forbes were not given a chance to get going and were dismissed after one and nine runs respectively.
It was still too early for the hosts to panic despite the loss of their two big wickets, but then Kane Horwell (10 runs) and Johan Davel (24) followed the walk to the shelter as the visitors began to believe.
It got worse before getting better for Forbes and co. as Ian Crawshaw also walked – for a duck.
In search of a messiah on the day, an unlikely source in Jordan Hollard put his hand up and smashed 59 for the highest score of the day.
Tembisa quartet of Enock Makamo, Wilbur van Dyk, Mashudu Mwacukambe and Kudakwashe Basikoro took two wickets each.
Forbes and teammate Michael Heger’s respective two wickets helped the home side restrict Tembisa to their total of 149 after 33.1 overs as Boksburg survived an early scare.
Tembisa’s Thulani Tembela registered 37 runs on the scoreboard as he ended the afternoon as the highest scorer for his team, only second to Hollard’s half-century.
