Young swimmer brings home 12 gold medals at junior champs
He competed in a total of 12 races and won them all.
CBC Boksburg swimming super star Kian Keylock has followed up his historic CANA Junior Africa Swimming Championships performance with another record-breaking outing at the KZN Seagulls Winter Short Course Championships which took place at the end of last month.
Keylock showcased his talent in KZN as he broke two meeting records in the 50m breaststroke and the 200m breaststroke.
In the shorter distance, he slashed the old mark of 30.49 seconds to 29.76 and he finished approximately 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 200m when he lessened the old mark of 2:20.14 to his new time of 2:18.54.
With his medal tally fast approaching the hundreds (if it’s not there yet), the 14-year-old’s latest 12 gold medals arrived in the aforementioned record-breaking races as well as in the 100m butterfly; 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle; 100m and 200m backstroke; 50m butterfly; 100m breaststroke and the 200m individual medley.
The Grade Eight learner missed the u-14 50m backstroke race as he had to fly back to Gauteng for the Gauteng Sports Awards, where he was named one of three finalists in the School Sportsperson of the Year category, but unfortunately fell short.
He did, however, swim the 50m back in the boys 15-and-over category and finished 13th, had his time from the race been used in his age group, the gold tally would’ve been 13 instead of 12.
He also broke two meet breaststroke records (50m and 200m) in his u-14 category at the CANA Juniors which were staged in Tunisia recently before being named the Overall Best Performer.
