Parents charged with child neglect after leaving two-year-old in a car

The child has been placed in the custody of the grandparents.

The Boksburg North police have arrested and charged a husband and his wife with child neglect after they allegedly left their two-year-old girl unattended inside their vehicle while they went shopping at East Rand Mall.

According to Const Justice Ramaube, the incident was witnessed by one of the security supervisors, who alerted the police after seeing the child inside the vehicle at the parking lot.

“The security supervisor alleged that the child was left from 12.45pm and the parents came back to the vehicle around 2.30pm.

“The security supervisor asked if they were the owners of the vehicle and they said yes. He further asked them if they were aware that their child was inside and they said yes,” Ramaube said.

Ramaube said the parents were immediately summoned to the security control room, where the police arrived to arrest and detain them at Boksburg North Police Station.

Police are investigating the matter and both suspects will be appearing in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
