A Mozambican man, posing as a South African citizen, got more than he had bargained for when he tried to dupe a police officer into certifying his fake ID book as legit, on August 30.
The man, whose name is known to this publication, reportedly went to the Boksburg Police Station and gave one of the police officers the fake ID and requested to do an affidavit.
The police officer, however, became skeptical and questioned the legal validity of the ID. He asked the man about his birth day and he could not give him an answer.
Following further interrogation, the man reportedly revealed that he bought the ID from someone.
The Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, would not confirm if the person accused of selling the fraudulent identification book has been arrested.
