Baseball president needs support to attend world cup

The tournament will be staged in Gijang between August 30 and September 8.

Boksburg Cardinals Baseball and Softball Club president Gavin Bennett has been selected as the pitching coach for the SA u-18 side heading to the Republic of Korea for the u-18 Baseball World Cup.

This is yet another standout honour in Bennett’s experience in the game, which comes after being selected to attend the World Baseball Classic in Florida in 2012 and winning the African Olympic qualifiers with the senior national team, to list a few.

He said: “Representing your country is always an honour and it also helps in gaining knowledge from other countries so you can bring that knowledge back and assist in growing our sport in the country with other coaches and athletes.”

The journey, however, is self-funded and Bennett, who’s also the coach of the Boksburg Cardinals Major League team, explained: “Each of the players and coaching staff have to raise R25 000.

“I am asking the Boksburg community to help me raise the money required for me to attend this tournament. I do realise that times are tough, but any amount that can be donated will be greatly appreciated.”

People interested in helping can reach Bennett on 083 447 0805 or email him at gavinb70@gmail.com.
