Disadvantages associated with handling and keeping of huge amounts of cash have prompted the City of Ekurhuleni to adopt a cash-free system in its licensing centres.
According to chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the pilot project in this regard was the Kempton Park licencing centre which went cash-free on April 1.
“The intention is to roll-out the system to all the city’s licencing centres,” said Kgasago.
Boksburg, along with centres in Wadeville and Alberton, will be cash free as from August 1.
