Barely a week after members of the EMPD pounced on a dagga shop in Boksburg, another shop selling dagga was raided by the Boksburg SAPS Crime Prevention Unit in Parkdene.
Acting on information received, the team led by Col Naidoo, stormed the store on July 26. They found substantial amounts of dagga, which the police believed was being sold to the public.
According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Const Ntsako Ledwabathe, dagga packaged in tablet containers and labelled according to its different flavours was prominently displayed on shelves in the shop.

Police confiscated dagga and other items that were apparently being used in the illegal trade. The dagga worth over R5 000 was confiscated and taken to the Boksburg Police Station.
In the other incident, the EMPD Community Liaison and Public Order Policing units members entered a shop on Rondebult Road and found that the saleswoman in the shop was also selling dagga.
The woman was immediately arrested and dagga valued at over R8 000 was seized and booked in at Boksburg Police Station.

Ledwaba reminds the public that the selling of or dealing in dagga and other prohibited drugs remains an offence and anyone found transgressing will be arrested and prosecuted.
“I’d also like to clear up the popular misconception the public has about the recent changes to legislation that has legalised the private use of dagga.
“The legislation has legalised the private cultivation and consumption of cannabis in your private place. Dealing in dagga remains an offence, and here is zero tolerance of drug trade in our area. If you’re caught breaking the law, you’ll be dealt with accordingly,” said Ledwaba. @MthuphaFanie
