Bronco to host pre-season soccer tournament in Reiger Park

Bronco’s season is scheduled for an early September start

Reiger Park soccer heavyweights Bronco FC will be the hosts of the first edition of the Bronco FC pre-season tournament set to be staged at the WJ Clements Stadium over the weekend of August 9 to 11.

The football jamboree required all 16 participating teams to fork out a R2 500 registration fee and with 15 teams having already confirmed their participation, only a single spot remains.

The competition will see four groups of four teams compete in a round robin before the top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stages, which are scheduled to begin on the afternoon of August 10.

The final on Sunday is scheduled to kick off at 3pm.

The final will also be the only match to last the entire 90 minutes. The rest of the knockout matches will each be 80 minutes long with the round-robin fixtures said to be 60 minutes long.

Entry fee for spectators is R10.

The winning prize money is R15 000, with the runners-up said to pocket R7 000. Medals and a trophy will also be handed to the winners and runners-up.

The football-filled weekend will also see two curtain-raisers on Sunday before the final, starting with a ladies’ match which will see Westbury outfit La Masia take on Tigers from Ramaphosa.

The ladies’ clash will be followed by a match-up between Reiger Park Masters and Eden Park Masters.

Individual awards will also be on offer, including the prestigious Player of the Tournament award, the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament prize and the Top Goal Scorer accolade.
