Boksburg sensei named Ekurhuleni Karate Federation chairman

Chaniotakos is also one of the senior instructors of NWS Shotokan Karate in the country.

The New World Shotokan (NWS) Dojo Boksburg head instructor, sensei Takis Chaniotakos, has recently been voted the new chairperson of Ekurhuleni Karate Federation.

The CEO reigns have been handed over by sensei Stef Biagioni, who’s held the seat for many years.

The decision was made at the Gauteng Karate Federation head offices in Johannesburg.

Chaniotakos said: “As chairperson of Ekurhuleni Karate, I have one goal in mind: to serve and give to best of my ability in the best interest of Ekurhuleni athletes, parents and senior instructors,” explained the diplomatic master, who has over 35 years’ experience in the sport.

“It’s an achievement in my karate life, just like all my other karate achievements so far.

“I’m quite enthusiastic to govern the region that is very much like a family to me. Many of the instructors affiliated to the Ekurhuleni Karate Federation have been with me for over 20 years.”

Quizzed on his highest achievement in the sport as a competitor, the ex-competitor gave a rather unorthodox response.

“If I was still competing, I would strive to be an ambassador for my region/province and to represent my country in and outside our borders.

“My aims also include striving with good, strong roots and pillars in place, to always put our athletes first and our vision to be the strongest region in Gauteng by having strong competitors good enough to be placed in the top 10 in our country.”
