TW Boksburg touch down eight tries in match against Dragons

The Volcano Trophy semi-finals kicks off on August 3.

A rampant TW Boksburg outfit ran in eight tries, including a Brandon Swart brace, to put Pretoria outfit the Dragons to the sword in their Volcano Trophy encounter at Prince George Park on the evening of July 19.

Swart took his personal tally on the night to 16 with his two five-pointers aided by three successful conversions as the home side dished out one of their more clinical performances of the season.

The other extras from the boot came courtesy of fly half Henry Pike, who also knocked over three two-pointers. Pike finished as the second highest point scorer behind Swart, with the addition of his try seeing him finish the encounter with 11 points.

Boksburg’s other try scorers involved loose forward Joe Meyer, wingers Prince Mofokeng and Adriaan van der Nest; full back Martin van Wyk and replacement back Rohan Broodryk.

The bonus-point victory had an added significance in that it ensured that the Prince George Park outfit remained the only Valke Rugby Union side in the Volcano Trophy competition to have beaten all the teams from the Blue Bulls Rugby Union.

The Dragons win has been preceded by victories over Correctional Services (60-29), Tshwane University of Technology (33-14), Tuine Grizzlies (22-20) and Pretoria (30-23).

With the play-offs looming, the win over the Dragons left the Owls in fourth spot on the log with the possibility of them missing out in the knockout stages still alive as NWU and Tuine still have a game in hand, respectively (before the Advertiser went to print). The local side’s fate lies in the outcome of these catch-up matches for NWU and Tuine.
