Former TW Boksburg Rugby Club centre David Woolls has been given the green light to continue playing rugby following an investigation into his controversial cameo appearance for Brakpan Rugby Club on June 1.
The investigation was carried out by local rugby controlling body the Valke Rugby Union.
Woolls, who plies his trade for the Old Georgians Rugby Club in Zimbabwe, featured for Brakpan in a Volcano Trophy match against Boksburg on June 1, helping the Panne to victory by scoring a try after coming on as a late substitution.
It was an episode which sparked controversy, with the mercurial midfielder having still being registered as an Old Georgians player at the time.
A statement released by the Valke read: “The Valke Rugby Union has investigated the David Woolls matter. No adverse finding was made against the Brakpan Rugby Club.
“It was, however, found that Woolls contravened Valke competition rule 6.22.1.10 in that he was registered with more than one club, whether within or outside the province.
“It was established that he was registered at the same time with both Brakpan and Old Georgians Rugby Club in Harare, Zimbabwe. Woolls was handed a suspended sentence with the result that he is eligible to play for Brakpan again.”
Brakpan won the encounter 30-22.
