Father and son duo to take on epic mountain bike race

An estimated 4 500 cyclists from around the world are expected to compete.

Boksburg High School Grade 11 learner Kyle Frost will be among the youngest, if not the youngest rider, to line up at the start of the 2019 KAP sani2c mountain bike race in KwaZulu-Natal from May 13 to 18.

Frost will face the gruelling 261km challenge, which will be spread over three days, a daunting yet exciting challenge.

The race will start from Southern Drakensberg down to Scottburgh on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

“I feel very nervous and excited at the same time. It will be the biggest race I’ve done and I want to prove to myself that I can do it,” he said.

“I’ll also be doing it for fun and to accomplish something different. It will be a good opportunity to have fun with my dad.”

Kyle’s dad, Edward, who will be doing the race with his son, echoed Kyle’s sentiments.

“This is probably going to be the last time to spend quality time together. Children grow up so quickly and Kyle is about to become his own man and with that come different interests.

“We want to achieve a good time together. Children shouldn’t be just children to parents, they should have friendship.”

The KAP sani2c is divided into three categories: trail, adventure and race, of which the race category is the most elite and includes professional cyclists.

The two Frost generations will be competing in the race category.

Every cent made from the race goes to charity and the father and son added that they’ve always been big on charity work.

The race will see the two cover 82km, 96km and 82km on their respective three race days.
