Woman sentenced for bribing two police officers

The accused's bribery of R100 000 is declared forfeited to the state

In November officers from the Germiston Flying Squad, WO Simon Khumalo and Sgt Godfrey Mdlisha, arrested a man from Sunward Park for possession of unwrought precious metals and an unlicensed firearm.

According to Boksburg North SAPS communications officer Const Justice Ramaube, on the very same day Monique Basson, who is the suspect’s daughter, indirectly, unlawfully and intentionally offered to give both officers gratification benefits of R100 000 in order for the officers to release her father.

The daughter was then arrested for bribery.

“Through investigations on the matter by Det WO Vusi Tlemo of Boksburg North SAPS Trio Task Team, the accused was found guilty on April 4 and sentenced to imprisonment for bribery and corruption.”

Ramaube said during sentencing on April 4 the accused pleaded guilty to corruption and was sentenced to an R8 000 fine or three years’ imprisonment with a further three years’ imprisonment or a fine of R10 000 wholly suspended for five years on condition that the suspect is not found guilty of corruption during the period of suspension.
