Charity drive provides welcome financial boost for local SPCA

Aircooled Hooligans (South African Chapter) donated 27 bags of puppy food, 28 bags of food for adult dogs, 75 blankets, 25 tins of pet food, five bags of kitten food, collars, shampoo and bowls to the Boksburg SPCA.

Enthusiasts from the Aircooled Hooligans (South African Chapter) hosted a Pick a Bone charity drive on the corner of Kruger and Railway streets on March 23 to raise funds for the animals at the Boksburg SPCA.

Heading out at 8am, they road in convoy from El Ridge Shopping Centre to the Boksburg SPCA.

Over 50 colorful Beetle, Caddy and Land Rover cars were parked on the lawn, attracting motorists who were eager to find out what the event was about.

Members from Aircooled Hooligans were busy braaiing the meat for the boerewors rolls that were on sale.

One of the organisers of the event, Nick Gouveia, said: “We hosted the drive because we saw the Boksburg SPCA was in dire need of pet food. We decided to raise funds and spread the word on all social media pages to let people know of this charity drive.”

Another organiser, Joey Ramalho, said people responded positively to their plea and they received overwhelming support from other clubs, such as Caddy and Land Rover.

The food sales brought in R2 500 for the SPCA.

Boksburg SPCA manager Maggie Mudd expressed her gratitude for the donations.
