‘Ed’ Tinker made an imprint in many people’s lives

A memorial service will be held for Ed at the Alan Woodrow Park Chapel on March 27 at 11am.

Edmund Leslie ‘Ed’ Tinker died on March 21 in Boksburg following complications after surgery.

Ed was born in Brakpan on April 15, 1946. He grew up in Brakpan, attending Anzac Primary School followed by Brakpan High School.

According to his son, Andrew, after school, his father decided on a career in printing.

“My father started an apprenticeship at Boksburg Printers in 1964. Over time he took ownership of the company and steered it into the well-established and successful organisation it is today,” said Andrew.

“Personally and through Boksburg Print, he contributed to the growth, well-being and prosperity of the city. He was well respected and a role model to those who knew him.”

He said his father was a keen sportsman who swam and played water polo all his life, representing South Africa at master’s level.

“My father had a passion for the outdoors, clay pigeon shooting, fishing and hunting. He loved wildlife photography with a particular interest in birds.

“He was well-known in the Boksburg community, had a zest for life and left an imprint on many with his great sense of humour and positive outlook.

“He remained a mischievous child at heart, who lived life to its fullest.”

Andrew said his father would be remembered for his biltong making, clay pigeon shooting, honesty, humour, friendship, loyalty, integrity, mischievousness, entrepreneurship, love of life, photography, gardening and family values.

Tinker will be loved and remembered by his wife, Lorraine, his three sons, Andrew, Bruce and Darryl, five grandchildren, Dylan, Ethan, Eddie, Bianca and Kyle, and brother, Geoff.
