Police arrest man for lying about robbery

The man will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

A 26-year-old suspect from Dawn Park was arrested for perjury after he allegedly lied to the police about being at home when a robbery took place on November 23.

At about 8pm on November 23, the Dawn Park police responded to a complaint of a house robbery.

They found the complainant at the house. He told them he had been asked to guard the property while the owner was away on holiday.

Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson Const Nkemeleng Mabula said the complainant claimed that while he was busy in the bathroom he heard a bang at the front door.

He told the police he went to check what was happening when he saw three men, one of whom was armed.

“The complainant said one of the suspects pointed the firearm at him while the other two suspects unplugged the plasma TV in the living room and in the main bedroom,” said Mabula.

The complainant said the three suspects then fled the scene.

However, according to Mabula, on November 26 the detectives interviewed the complainant again and he admitted that he was not in the house when the robbery took place.
