Captain comes to the rescue of Boksburg against Tembisa
The home side clinched a 30-run win via the D/L method after the heavens had interrupted the proceedings.
Captain Adam Forbes helped steered the CMH Boksburg ship on a true course as his side found themselves in early trouble during their Eastern Cricket Premier League tie against Tembisa on November 25.
The Prince George outfit has developed a tendency to begin their batting innings poorly, and this time was no different as they were heading for an embarrassing defeat to the visitors.
Following Forbes’ loss in the pre-game toss to opposite Zwelo Ntsimbini, the home side were ordered to bat before suddenly finding themselves 10/3 following the falls of Chris Opperman, Aktar Rasul and wicket-keeper, Sihle Dlamini.
Enter Forbes and Willie Moolman.
Following the latter’s dismissal after a personal haul of 16 runs, Forbes couldn’t have found his form at a better time at this stage of the season.
The captain went past a half-century and batted throughout the game’s revised overs of 43 to end with a game-changing unbeaten 85.
He was joined by Josh Taylor, who also produced decisive innings that produced 49 runs.
Meanwhile, Ntsimbini, who finished as his side’s second-highest run scorer on the day with 28, also led in the bowling stakes as he claimed a hat-trick with his 3/43, including a single maiden.
Following efforts by CMH Boksburg’s triumvirate of Forbes, Taylor and Moolman, the home side managed to generate a defendable total of 178/5.
The visitors proved not too shabby in their chase thanks to a more consistent run in their innings which showed a better collective effort.
Unfortunately for Ntsimbini and company, their chase ended short as they were bowled out for 174.
The home side’s Mike Heger proved a class act with the leather on the day, ending with 5/60 in nine overs of bowling.
