Ruan Potts makes EFC return in December

EFC will return on March 16 for its first event of 2019.

EFC veteran Ruan ‘Fangzz’ Potts will make his long-awaited return to the hexagon when he faces American Jared ‘The Mountain’ Vanderaa for the interim EFC heavyweight title at the Time Square in Pretoria on December 8.

The bout will form part of a co-main event for EFC 76, EFC’s last show of the year, with the other headliner pitting Italy’s EFC women’s champion Chiara Penco against another US international in Cheyanne Vlismas.

Penco will also be putting her undefeated record on the line.

Following reports that EFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Dalcha Lungiambula is hard at work in preparation to face welterweight and middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis, it has been confirmed that he will not be defending his heavyweight gold in the short term.

According to the EFC website, Lungiambula was offered both Potts and Vanderaa as challengers to his gold and accepted it before explaining: “I will face them as soon as I have once again proven that I am the real true champion.”

Potts, who’s also a former UFC heavyweight, will be gunning for his third EFC heavyweight championship.

Vanderaa made headlines within EFC walls when he faced one of the organisation’s greatest heavyweights in Andrew ‘One Gear’ van Zyl in a close loss in their five-round title fight. In his next appearance, he challenged Elvis Moyo before making quick work of the latter.
