Webb crowned boxing champion at SAs

Webb is also part of an academic team preparing for the 2020 Olympic Games and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Gauteng amateur boxing champion Cayden Webb was crowned the South African champion at the South African Boxing Championships recently held in Limpopo.

The soft-spoken pugilist, who arrived at the tournament as the defending champion, successfully reciprocated his mark he set last year when he won his first national title in Dundee.

Webb, a student at the Hammer Gym in Boksburg, a stable which also includes South African boxing heavyweights such as accomplished trainer Harold Volbrecht and ABU cruiserweight champion Tommy Oosthuizen, improved his record to 21-0.

The road to the final for the lightweight boxer began with a quarter-final clash where he was announced the victor on unanimous decision before knocking out his opponent in the subsequent semi-final fight.

A split decision win in the final fight ensured that the Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen learner successfully defended his jewel and thus more success for the Hammer Gym.
