Boksburg Cricket Club crash out in T20 semi-final
In the late final, Kempton Park defeated Northerns by eight wickets to be crowned champions.
Boksburg Cricket Club completed their pre-season showing when they were bundled out of Easterns’ T20 competition semi-final against Benoni Northerns on September 30.
Northerns emerged as 49-run victors at Willowmoore Park after racing to 219/5 in their allotted overs.
Following their decision to bowl after earning the right to choice during the pre-match coin toss, the home side opted to bowl and could only manage a maximum of 170 during their time behind the crease.
Northerns’ opening batsman Vaughn Humphreys was the star of the show and halved the job for his teammates in the batting front as he produced a blinder of an innings with the willow, which saw him blitzed to 108 not out from 61 balls.
Fellow top orders Rian van der Merwe (28) and Aron Visser (38) added the significant extras.
Following the early dismissal of Boksburg’s Akhter Rasul during his side’s batting innings, the trio of Kane Horwell, Willie Moolman and Adam Forbes swiftly re-steadied the Boksburg ship.
They knocked 36, 25 and 43 respectively.
Finisher Jarrod Lloyd chipped in with 23 but it ultimately proved insufficient as the home side progressed to the final to face league champion Kempton Park.
In the bowling stakes, Moolman took two Northerns sculps and conceded 27 runs, with Jordan and Kyle Hollard, along with Dylan Matthews, taking a wicket apiece.
Stiaan Jordaan took a hat-trick of wickets for Northerns with Stefano Di Bartolomeo and Kyle McClean taking braces apiece.
