Boksburg Athletic Club’s participation in the Comrades by names and numbers

Wiehan van der Berg stopped the time as the club’s fastest runner.

The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) enjoyed a total number of 108 entrants and 93 qualifiers for this year’s Comrades Marathon.

But due to injuries and unforeseen circumstances, the number of starters dwindled down to 72 with 63 completing the race.

Double Green number superstar Coenie Berowsky is the first runner in the club’s history to run his 30th Comrades – all in BAC colours.

Berowsky is closely followed by Dieter Muller (21st), Ben Truter (22nd), Joseph Morowane (23rd), Wynand Strydom (24th) and Josiah Makoro (26th).

Green Number stars included Colin Black, Mandi Dudula, Phillip Burmeister and Zacharia Mogotsi.

Sixty-six-year-old Burmeister was the club’s oldest male participant with Phumlani Mthethwa (28) being the youngest male.

The trio of Rita van Wyk, Jennifer Rogers and Linda Loxley (all 55) were the most senior ladies to represent the club – with 33-year-old Sheree Rogers-Chapman being the youngest lady.

The club’s committee was represented by Byron Jones, who finished second overall for the club, David Jones and Ian Manchest Jones also featured along with partner Leigh-Ann Marucchi as the only duo from the club to compete as a couple.

Furthermore, there were six family groups including van der Berg and brother Werner.

Rodgers-Chapman shared the race with daughter Jennifer along with father and son combination Eric and Bradley Oaker. Brothers Simon and Jonathan Ward also featured.

Jennifer Rogers and Wynand Snyman competed as mother and son-in-law while Rogers-Chapman and Snyman represented the sister and brother-in-law combination.

Novice runners included Celimpilo Khumalo, Jabulani Gamede, Johannes Scott, Jonathan Ward, Mncedisi Jack and Victor Leonardo. – @SabeloBoksburg
