NWU no match for dominant Owls

The Owls were sharp on attack and strict on defence.

TW Boksburg Rugby Club boosted their quest of making the Valke Peregrine League play-offs with a consistent and complete performance that blew visitors North-West University off the Prince George Park turf on Saturday, May 19.

TW Boksburg, fondly known as the Owls, outscored the visitors 22-0 in the second-half in addition to their 24-12 half-time lead for a comfortable 46-12 win.

The Owls have not made the best of starts to their campaign, enduring heavy defeats along the way to the league’s heavyweights before dishing out their own heavy hiding to a hapless Kempton Park side early last month.

Their wings had been clipped prior to the Kempton clash and that could only lead to a group of seething Owls. Kempton were the first to witness the wrath, courtesy of a 40-point first-half ‘blitzkrieg’ – also at PG Park.

This time it was NWU who, just like Kempton, were kept scoreless in the second-half.

It was a try fest for the Van der Nest brothers, Attie and Adriaan, who shared six tries with a hat-trick each.

It’s rare to see the Owls run riot without one David Woolls on the scoreboard; he was not in the Kempton blowout. He was, however, back on the charts with a try of his own in addition to the Van der Nest six.

Number 10 Henry Pike added three conversions and a single penalty. Replacement back Forest Roos also slotted a conversion.

It will be interesting to see how Kempton responds at home this Saturday (June 9) – with the Owls in town.

Scorers for TW Boksburg: Tries – Adriaan and Attie van der Nest (3 each), David Woolls. Conversions – Henry Pike (3), Forest Roos. Penalties – Henry Pike – @SabeloBoksburg
