Watch: Moletsane crowned champion of eighth Birchwood Half-Marathon

Moletsane’s finishing time did beat last year’s winning time of one hour, 13 minutes and 19 seconds registered by Lebogang Nkofu.

Tembisa Athletics Club’s star Moeketsi Moletsane comfortably won the Birchwood Half-Marathon’s ultimate distance of 21.1km to be crowned the 2018 champion.

Moletsane (31), who looked like he could do another 21km race, clocked one hour, 12 minutes and 11 seconds for the win, four minutes ahead of Action Ramaboea (Ivory Park Athletics Club).

He will have to work harder in the future to challenge the race’s record of one hour, six minutes and 48 seconds set by Lucky Mohale in 2015.

Bright Mikolongwe (Benoni Northerns Athletics Club) completed the podium.

Race director Kate Wood said, “Once again we had an exceptional race. Definitely the best to date.

“A big thank you to all our sponsors for allowing us an opportunity to host a race for our community and promote healthy living. We also donated over R10 000 to the Ukajede Foundation Children Trust.”

Caroline Koll (Striders) won the women’s race in one hour, 35 minutes and 26 seconds ahead of Team Vitality’s Judith Goddard who settled for the silver medal. Ekurhuleni Athletic Club’s Prudence Simelane rounded-off the top three.

This was the eighth edition of the half-marathon.
