Four EMPD officers injured in North Rand Road accident

The four EMPD officers sustained slight injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment.

Four EMPD officers were injured in an accident on North Rand Road on Friday (April 13).

The crash occurred at around 10.30am when two EMPD vehicles, each with two officers inside, were travelling behind each other.

The driver of the vehicle in front had to suddenly apply brakes to avoid a head-on collision with a light delivery vehicle.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD media liaison officer, the female driver of the light delivery vehicle had apparently lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.

When the EMPD vehicle suddenly braked the vehicle behind it crashed into it.

“The female driver wasn’t injured but the four EMPD officers sustained slight injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment.

“The woman reportedly told officers her dog had disturbed her, causing her to veer onto the wrong side of the road, and then apologised and drove off,” Mokheseng said.

“The officers were in shock and couldn’t provide further details about the colour of the light delivery vehicle or the registration number.”

The accident is being investigated by the Accident Reconstruction Unit.
