Woman shot in the hand during hijacking

Vehicle was recovered an hour later

A woman was hijacked by an unknown number of criminals and shot in the hand in Boksburg South on January 24 at about 7am.

EMPD Equestrian Unit members were alerted to the hijacking and were able to recover the vehicle an hour later in Wattville, Benoni.

Spokesperson for the EMPD, chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, said while the victim was receiving medical attention on the scene from paramedics, the equestrian unit members began searching for the hijacked vehicle and the suspects, with the assistance of GPS co-ordinates provided by the vehicle’s tracking company.

“Shortly before 8am the vehicle, a white Honda sedan, was located in Wattville,” Kgasago said.

“It was found abandoned but intact. After the necessary formalities were completed, the vehicle was taken to SAPS Van Ryn Deep pound in Benoni.

“The hunt is on for the perpetrators of this crime.”
