Local teacher-in-training crowned Miss Commonwealth
Boksburg shines bright yet again on the pageant stage
Boksburg beauty Jenna- Lee van Niekerk (22) was recently crowned Miss Commonwealth South Africa 2017/18 at the Summer Place Boutique Hotel in Germiston.
The newly crowned Miss Commonwealth is a student teacher and trainer of the junior drummie team at St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls.
Recognising that education is the key to success, Jenna-Lee is studying teaching and majoring in psychology through Unisa.
The 22-year-old said she decided to enter Miss Commonwealth because she saw it as a platform for her to make a difference in the lives of South African children.
“I have chosen my path as a teacher and a drummie coach because dealing with children is my passion and I enjoy every second of it.
“Reaching out to children and seeing their growth develop over time is extremely rewarding,” Jenna-Lee said.
She is thrilled and humbled to wear the crown.
“Miss Commonwealth South Africa is a charity crown and charity holds a very special place in my heart.
“I have amazing adventures planned with the Miss Commonwealth organisation but would also like to involve my community.
“If anyone would like me to get involved in a project or would like me to try to contribute to the society in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me on my Facebook Page Jenna-lee Van,” she said.
