Police come crashing through wall in Reiger Park

Three Reiger Park police officers escaped unharmed after their SAPS truck crashed into the wall of a house in Gerry Oberholzer Street in Reiger Park at around 1pm today (December 12).

A spokesperson for Reiger Park SAPS, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, confirmed the dramatic crash, saying preliminary reports indicate the brakes of the truck failed, causing the driver to lose control.

The wall and truck were badly damaged.

A source from the community, who phoned the Advertiser, said he and other community members were left stunned following the bizarre accident.

The source alleges that the driver of the truck was a learner driver and that he skipped a nearby stop sign before the crash.

“The community demanded to see her driver’s licence and they were told not to worry about the licence,” said the community member.

Phathela said the matter is being investigated. Following the accident, the Reiger Park police have registered a reckless and negligent driving docket. Phathela said the docket will, however, be taken to the NPA where a decision to charge the driver will be taken. -@FanieFLK
