Cricket: Boksburg shown no mercy in Bedfordview

Boksburg Cricket Club made the short trip to Bedfordview for their third-round showdown against Bedfordview Cricket Club in an Eastern Cricket Premier League clash on Sunday, November 5.

Bedford emerged as deserved 197-run victors.

After being sent in to bat first on their home pitch in the first innings, the hosts made their allotted 50 overs count and never looked back.

Their healthy total of 295/6 all but ended the visitors’ hopes, with the firing Sylvester Pretorius (77 not out) and Duane Mountjoy (unbeaten 26) taking them over the line.

All-rounder Kyle Scheepers complemented his decent knock of 29 with 3/13 including a single maiden in 10 overs. Clint Groenewald took two more wickets off the visitors to finish with 2/22 in five overs.

But the star of the afternoon with the leather was the home side’s skipper, Jason Smith, who finished off the demotivated Boksburg batting attack with his 5/12.

During Boksburg’s batting innings, Ahkter Rasul provided some resistance with a decent personal haul of 47, but it proved insignificant in the bigger picture as the home side won comfortably.

Boksburg return home for their next fixture as they welcome Duduza before visiting KwaThema on November 26.
