The race is on for the 2017 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile in which the strongest field of 16 horses will run for their charities to earn them a part of the whopping prize money of R1-million.
Last year’s winner, New Predator and also Hat Puntano, have been given the top weight of 61kg for the Grade Two Charity Mile R1-m race at Turffontein racecourse on Saturday and will be amongst the field to run for their charities.
The draw for the Charity Mile took place at Emperors Palace on October 25 and paired the celebrities, horses, charities and media partners.
The format boasts 16 horses paired with 16 celebrities, charities and media partners with the Grade Two R1-m paid out according to the finishing positions of the horses to the various charities on the day.

Supporting the common goal for those less fortunate are Caxton South and East newspapers who will be cheering on for their charities together with the 16 celebrities.
The day sees celebrities dressed to the nines at the rail to cheer home their particular horse. Each celebrity represents a horse in the Charity Mile and the horses’ finishing positions in the Grade Two race determine what portion of R1-m goes to their respective charities.
The first horse crossing the finishing line will earn R150 000 for the charity linked to him, second prize is R100 000, third R80 000, fourth R70 000 and from fifth to last position (16th) all the charities will receive R50 000.
The Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile also forms part of the Summer In The City which means a host of fantastic days at the racecourse which culminates in the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup, the jewel in Johannesburg racing’s crown at the end of November.
The Charity Mile race-day also offers the perfect opportunity to show off some of the finest fashions and trends this summer. There is no particular theme to think of which means anything goes as far as your interpretation of a day at the races is concerned.
