Parkrand pensioner assaulted, robbed in garage at home

An 82-year-old man was hit in the face after refusing to get out of his car during a robbery in Parkrand on October 17.

The Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, said the pensioner was sitting in his car in his garage after returning from the shop when he was approached by two armed men who instructed him to get out of the car.

“The suspects tried to pull the man out of the car but he screamed and refused to get out. His wife then came out of the house and also screamed,” said Maseko.

He said it is not clear what type of weapon was used to hit the pensioner during the scuffle.

“The suspects took the car keys and the man’s wallet and got into a silver Audi,” Maseko said.

She urged motorists to be observant when driving home by checking their rearview and side mirrors regularly to see whether they are being followed.

“If you suspect you are being followed, do not enter your driveway but rather proceed to a safe public place and phone the police or your security company or go to the nearest police station,” she said.
