Where has the ‘God of War’ been?

Charismatic EFC middleweight fighter Patrick “God of War” Luindula has been out of the spotlight, something you wouldn’t normally associate with his outspoken self.

The 29-year-old Luindula, who trains out of the Junkyard MMA Gym in Boksburg, has not been in the hexagon in a year.

Asked about his hiatus, he said: “A lot has happened since my last fight last year. I had a heart attack scare and that’s the main reason behind my break from action. I haven’t trained since June last year.

“I’ve since started my own amateur MMA promotion, EWC, which stands for Extreme Warriors Championship.

“I’m also busy with other community projects apart from my new promotion. I just want to give back to the community as much as I can.”

Quizzed on his return to the EFC hexagon and the effects his heart scare has on it, the Angola international answered: “For now, I just want to help my promotion settle down while I assess my heart condition.

“I haven’t thought about possibly retiring and I don’t even want to think that far. I will definitely return to action but I haven’t put a time frame to it yet.”

Luindula is a master of getting into his opponents’ head, with unforgettable quotes since his EFC debut.

These include:

“Who needs good luck when you’re as good as me?”

“Gordon [Roodman] is scared, he knows I’m going to beat him.”

“I will beat Nyembwe [Didier] for his whole country to see.”

Luindula made his EFC debut against Nyembwe in December 2015. His last fight was against Quaid Openshaw on July 15 last year.
