Arnolds makes his case in CBC truimph
In-form CBC Old Boys top-order batsman Casey Arnolds again led his team in a five-wicket win over Thembisa as the hosts continued their rich vein of form since the resumption of this season’s second round of matches.
Arnolds’ telling contribution on the day began with the leather as his production of 3/31 helped limit the visitors to 187 in 44.3 overs.
Teammate Jaydin Liebenberg joined in the bowling stranglehold as he and Arnolds took an overall six wickets between them. Liebenberg was even more impressive, manufacturing 3/13 in six overs of bowling – including a maiden.
“I was happy for the boys for getting the win,” said Arnolds, refusing to take all the credit.
“A little bit disappointed that we were just short of making it a bonus-point win, but I’m still happy for the win. I struggled in the beginning, but after I hit 50, it started getting easier,” he said of his batting innings.
Asked about his good form with the bat in recent weeks, the striker maintained his modest approach.
“I guess I’ve been lucky,” he joked.
“The CBC wicket is nice for batting and it makes it easier. I really enjoy playing there.”
The hard-hitter married his bowling stats with a total of an unbeaten 101 with the bat as they chased down Thembisa’s total.
Thembisa captain Zwelo Ntsimbini led from the front with his half-ton before ending on a respectable 77 – unlike his direct opposite, Nicholas Lockyer, who had a rather quiet match in his standards.
The day saw another half-ton scorer in CBC’s Mpho Ndzimande, who contributed 54 runs.
The home side finished the game with a total of 188/5 after 41 overs. – @SabeloBoksburg
