Parents furious as children not admitted to preferred schools
Local parents were furious after their Grade Eight children were not admitted to their preferred schools.

Some parents had applied to their preferred schools as early as April last year, with some placed high on the list of applicants.
Lindokuhle Kolanisi made a manual Grade Eight application for her daughter at Hoërskool Voortrekker in Boksburg on April 4.
She was given an acknowledgement letter confirming her child’s application. However, she was this year told to apply at another school as there is no space for her child.
Her child attended New Comet Primary School, which has always been a feeder to Voortrekker.
She was left frustrated and does not know what to do, as Voortrekker is the only school where she applied.
Prince Mkhonto’s nephew was rejected by Boksburg High School.
Though he ended up being admitted to Sunward Park High School, Mkhonto was still displeased.
“The boy’s mother, who died five months ago, applied at the Boksburg High School very early last year.
“All the children in our family went to Boksburg High and we have everything, including the uniform and the hymn books. We understand the school’s culture, hence we applied there.”
Mkhonto said the school informed them the child was not admitted, without giving them any reasons for the decision.
“What pains us is that the learners in his class at the same primary school were admitted to Boksburg. How can this be?”
“I still need answers.”
The Advertiser contacted the Gauteng Department of Education, which advised all the parents to go to an ‘Admission Centre’ set up at Sunward Park High School.
They have not responded to individual queries.
