Bodybuilder Koen gets his Dublin wish

Imposing bodybuilder and personal trainer Rudolf Koen’s wish came true in Dublin, Ireland at the NABBA-WFF World Championships.

This is after the Virgin Active mentor finished sixth in his NABBA Class 2 Division.

Koen, whose competition weight varies between 96 and 98kg, had stated that a top six finish at the United Kingdom nationals would be a success for him.

“In Ireland, placing top six would be awesome, but obviously we all secretly hope to walk off with the trophy,” he said in days leading up to the global showpiece.

He indeed echoed these sentiments following what was arguably the toughest competition he’s faced in his career.

“I’m happy placing sixth in a big and probably the strongest line-up I’ve ever been in,” he said.

“Sixteen to 17 athletes were in the line-up and placing top six is not the ultimate outcome but definitely not disappointing.”

On the overall experience, Koen commented: “It was certainly something that came along unexpectedly but was an opportunity of a lifetime. It makes all the hard work seem worth it in a way. It was stressful but yet exciting.

“To also enter the unknown was awesome; I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

He said a lot of hard work and dedication went into prepping for this competition.

“But every day I realised where my strength came from. I praise and give the Lord thanks for guiding me and lifting me up when I doubted myself. It’s definitely true – anything is possible if you trust in Him.

“I learned a lot from probably the best and most humble guy who happens to be a pro, and a good one, Wiehann Mentz.

“Just talking and listening to him you pick up on small little things that could make a big difference. You also learn not to make drastic changes to what’s been working for you till now.”
