Koen eyeing top 6 finish in Dublin

Imposing local bodybuilder Rudolf Koen says a top six finish at the NABBA-WFF World Championships, scheduled to take place in Ireland, this weekend, would be a success for him.

Koen will vie for top honours in the United Kingdom, as he attempts to emulate his outing in Pretoria, last month, during the NABBA-WFF SA Championships, where he placed first in his NABBA Class 2 division (between 1.72 and 1.79m tall).

Koen (39) also won during the provincials stage, which preceded the nationals.

“It was an amazing feeling, placing first at provincials in Bloemfontein, considering the quality of competition, and it exceeded all expectations when I placed first at SAs,” said the Boksburg Virgin Active personal trainer.

“It takes a lot of hard work, but more faith and prayer helps you through times when you doubt yourself,” he explained.

“I’ve done SAs before… years ago as a novice, but being selected to go overseas is a feeling you can’t describe. I know it’s only through His grace I’m able to work the hours I do and still train hard.

“In Ireland, placing top six would be awesome, but obviously we all secretly hope to walk off with the trophy.”
