Boksburg wins the double

The Boksburg Football Club’s u-14 side has made history by winning the double (league and knockout cup) this season.

Having all but wrapped up the league title, the Blues, led by Ernest Seforo, thumped league rivals Bedforview’s BCC Supersport 3-1 in the ELFA Cup final, in Benoni, to complete the double.

“The season hasn’t been easy at all,” said Seforo.

“We wanted to keep focused and keep our standard of winning our matches; coaches and players had a target of winning five matches in a row and we enjoyed it.

”We made it with the help of the mighty Lord. We approached each league and cup game with respect, as each game is different. The lucky and better team wins the game.

”I was so impressed about the season and being on top of the log, eight points ahead of the team in second position.”

BCC were the league’s runners-up, with 53 points from 22 games.

The Blues’ talisman, Keamogetswe Mothibi, and Shane Radebe (brace) netted in the cup final.

Seforo also lauded the team’s supporters for their influence throughout the season.

“We can have a team, but without the responsible and supportive parents we had this season, we would not have players to field,” he said.

”They (the parents) were committed to transporting the boys for training after work and making time on weekends for matches: home, away and night games in dry, wet and cold conditions. They worked very well with the coaches.

“I would like to thank the Boksburg FC management – chairperson Sherrie Keylock, Ryan Milne, Mark Lewis, coach Melvin Kruger and other age group coaches from Boksburg FC – for being so supportive.

“To all the sponsors and to those who helped with transport during hard times, I thank you all.”

The Blues were just five points shy of collecting maximum points throughout the league season. They finished with 61 points of a possible 66, scoring an astonishing 131 goals and conceding only 21.

“To my players for having a very successful campaign; you played very well and made yourselves, families, coaches and the Boksburg FC team proud.

”It wasn’t easy for you boys but, with the mercy of God, all went well. You played like a team and you were united and a family. Well done boys, keep focused to the next season; may God bless you all. Ons gaan almal voorentoe seuns.” – @SabeloBoksburg
